Server Room Access

Brief description

The VSETH has access to the use of areas of the ETH server rooms. These rights of use can therefore also be claimed by organisations affiliated to VSETH (student associations, commissions, etc.). The VSETH IT Support Group (ISG) coordinates access and use of its area of the ETH server rooms.
By accessing the ETH server rooms, members of the VSETH are granted a great privilege with a far-reaching benefit of trust. In order to continue to benefit from this privilege, VSETH must be able to ensure that care is taken with the sensitive infrastructure. This means that the VSETH only grants access to the server rooms to authorised persons, clarifies the rules for the use of the server room and assumes a possible control function. How this is done is documented here.

Receive server room access

Step 1: Fill in and submit application for access authorisation and declaration of consent:

The IT Services of the ETH dictate to fill in this application for access authorisation. It need to be sign by ISG VSETH:

In addition, VSETH requires a declaration of consent to use the server rooms to be signed. It serves to clarify rules of conduct when using ETH server rooms.

The reading and understanding of this document serves to ensure that the correct behaviour is followed when accessing ETH server rooms, that incorrect behaviour is prevented and that VSETH ensures that the persons authorised to access the server rooms have been informed of the rules of conduct. The applicant must sign the declaration of consent.

Both forms must be completed in full and submitted to ISG (CAB E18). (Can also be sent by internal mail).

Step 2: Grant access

Now ISG sends the application for access authorisation of step 1 to the IT Services (ID) at ETH and submits the signed declaration of consent. If everything has been filled out in accordance with the access authorization application, the ID will sign it and the access will be authorized. Access is now activated on the Legi and the server rooms can be entered.

According to the declaration of consent, guests may only be taken along in individual cases and the person authorised to access the server rooms is responsible.

Support

The basis for the support process is the general VSETH support process according to the User Documentation: Support Process. This means in particular that all support requests are managed via the ticketing system OTRs. Questions and problems may always be reported to vseth-it-support@ethz.ch. VSETH's IT support group will then deal with them in accordance with its response times for queries (SLAs).
