General

The VSETH calendar, like the mail account, runs via the ETH Zurich Exchange Server. A VSETH mail account is therefore a prerequisite for using the calendar service.

FAQ

Here you will find the most important answers to frequently asked questions. If your question is not answered here, please send an e-mail to vseth-it-support@ethz.ch

The calendar may be accessed online here. The Login is via the VSETH mail account.

The VSETH calendar can be connected to the usual calendar programs on PCs, Macs and mobile devices. If the corresponding email account is already connected to the device, the calendar option must also be selected in the account settings on the device. If the email account is not yet configured, instructions can be found here.

If you have not changed your settings, by default free / busy information but no individual appointments are visible for all users on the system, i.e. for all ETH members. However, this can be changed.

If you want to share your exact appointment information with other people, you may do so as follows:

  1. Log in to the web interface.
  2. In the left sidebar, right-click on the calendar you want to share.
  3. Then select the menu item Sharing Permissions.
  4. In the field 'Share with' enter the e-mail address of the person with whom the calendar is to be shared.
  5. For each person the sharing permissions may be defined. Those are:
    • Availability Only: Only Free / Busy information is shared.
    • Limited Details: Free / Busy time, appointment name and location will be displayed.
    • Full details: All information about appointments is displayed, including participants and notes.
    • Editor: May also edit the calendar.
    • Delegate: May view appointments marked as private as well as edit them.

In the Online Calendar and also via Outlook it is possible to mark appointments as private. Please note, however, that this only means that most calendar programs do not show the appointment to other people, but the data is not protected by this. It is therefore recommended not to enter personal or confidential data in the calendar that you have shared with other people. More information on this topic can be found in the ETH documentation here.

Customer benefits

Using the Exchange calendar function has many advantages over a private calendar:

  1. Separation of private and VSETH appointments.
  2. The calendar system is fully integrated with ETH, i.e. you can accept appointments from other ETH members and view the calendars of other ETH members.
  3. Simple appointment finding via Outlook features for finding appointments, Doodle is no longer necessary.

Customer groups and pricing

This service is available for all organisations which are using our email service and is free of charge.

Configuration and order

Support

The basis for the support process is the general VSETH support process according to the User Documentation: Support Process. This means in particular that all support requests are managed via the ticketing system OTRs. Questions and problems may always be reported to vseth-it-support@ethz.ch. VSETH's IT support group will then deal with them in accordance with its response times for queries (SLAs).
